Fix PDF pages printing upside down double-sided

This usually is not a bad PDF. It is almost always the wrong flip direction in the print dialog.

Why this happens

Long edge versus short edge in plain language

Long edge means the pages flip like a normal book. Short edge means the pages flip like a notepad or calendar. If your back side looks upside down, you usually chose the wrong one for the way the document is meant to be held.

Check orientation before printing

If the document mixes portrait and landscape pages, preview the result carefully. A single print setting may not handle every layout well, so print small ranges when needed.

Do not skip this when the file contains slides, rotated scans, or worksheets. Those layouts are the fastest way to get one half of the document right and the other half wrong.

If the problem shows up only in one app

Switch viewers before you start editing the PDF. Browser print panels, Preview, Acrobat, and manufacturer tools may expose different duplex controls. If the same file prints correctly from one app and incorrectly from another, the app is the better place to fix the problem.
